Docked at Sunset Marina, Slip D3
Ocean City, MD

The "Muff Diver" is a 1984 Ocean Yacht,
refitted throughout in 1992 and re-powered in 1999. In 1992 she went
through extensive re-modeling to make the vessel more charter fishing
friendly. The "Muff Diver" has heat/air conditioning, TV/VCR,
stereo, microwave, refrigerator, ice maker and other amenities. The
cockpit, planned with the fisherman in mind, is fully equipped for
offshore fishing. There is a large kill box for your catch with an ice
machine feeding it to insure your catch is kept fresh. There are two
chairs, a rocket launcher or nothing in the cockpit depending on the kind
of fishing to be done. She has full state of the art electronics, radar
and is powered with twin 485HP, 6-71 Detroit Diesels.
Owner/operator Captain Joe Riley has over 20 years
experience fishing between Hatteras, NC and Ocean City, MD. Joe promotes
and encourages angler participation and he will insure that your fishing
trip will be an enjoyable one.

Above: Muff Diver Charter Boat, Pink Hull, 3rd from the
right, Welcome to "Muff Diver" Charters!
The following will provide you with a brief
description of a day charter fishing on the "Muff Diver" plus some
recommendations to make your trip one you'll have fond memories of.
The day or evening before your trip you may want to
check and make sure you have the following items ready for the morning: A
camera, film, suntan lotion (NO OIL PLEASE!), a jacket (for chilly
mornings or as a cover up from the sun), sunglasses (polarized are best),
and a hat. Hopefully, it will be a bright, sunny day and those items will
make for a more comfortable trip. You may want to consider an
over-the-counter motion sickness remedy if you're prone to the queezies. I
recommend one just before bed and one just as soon as you get up in the
morning. Keep the drinking in check the night before - it's amazing how
much that helps to insure a good day.
"WHITE SOLE" deck shoes or sneakers only, please!!
Something that will not leave black scuff marks on the deck. NO BOOTS,
WORK SHOES, BLACK SOLE OR HARD SOLE SHOES!
Your trip begins at approximately the time on the
schedule for your type of trip. If possible, you should check with the
Captain the night before. It is a good time to discuss weather and
departure time. All bait and tackle is provided by the boat as well as ice
to keep your catch in top shape during the day. You should bring a good,
solid cooler for your own food and drink. It is OK to feed the Captain and
Mate.
We troll, chunk or chum using rigged baitfish and
some artificial lures. Six or seven rods are normally in use. However,
when a large fish gets hooked up, the other lines are pulled in so that
the fish doesn't get wrapped up in them. We provide the tackle and bait
but you may, of course, bring your own tackle.
In April & May, when we are fishing from Solomon's
Island, we fish for Trophy Rockfish. When we are fishing from Hatteras
Harbor Marina in Hatteras, NC we fish for Blue and White Marlin, an
occasional Sailfish, Tuna, Dolphin fish and Wahoo.
From June through October, we are fishing from
Sunset Marina in Ocean City, Maryland. In June, we are fishing for shark,
especially Mako and Thresher along with slammer Bluefish. The last week in
June the Bluefin Tuna season usually opens and we start fishing for them.
There are still plenty of slammer Bluefish in the early part of July and
the Bluefin Tuna are here in good numbers. Yellowfin Tuna, Wahoo, Dolphin
and Marlin start to show up in the beginning of July as well. The last
week of July usually marks the end of Bluefin Tuna season in OC. As we get
into August Billfish, Yellowfin Tuna, Wahoo and Dolphin are still here in
good numbers. Towards the middle to end of August Longfin Tuna start
showing up. Early September holds some good fishing for an assortment of
fish but about the middle of September through October, OC has some
excellent Yellowfin and Longfin Tuna fishing or should I say Tuna chunking
- if you like to fish for Tuna, this is a "don't miss" time.
There is a competent fish cleaning service which you
may want to use located right at the marinas. It certainly saves time and
usually makes for better fillets and steaks as an end result. You must
provide your own coolers for storage of your fillets.
As you will find throughout the day, my Mate will be
a most helpful and knowledgeable member of your team. TIPPING is CUSTOMARY
and EXPECTED. It should be based upon your discretion. A MINIMUM tip of
$250.00 will be greatly appreciated and is well deserved for long hours of
hard work. If you feel that my Mate is not worth a tip, please tell me why
- what he did or did not do. I would greatly appreciate your comments.
Thanks !
