Shimano Calcutta TE
Calcutta TE. Total Efficiency. Unless
you've handled one of Shimano's Total Efficiency reels you will not
believe how much power you can have with such a high-speed reel. Shimano
accomplishes this feat by greatly increasing the size of the main and
pinion gears, giving you more leverage when retrieving under a heavy load.
But that's not all. Shimano went all the way with these reels,

frame and setplate that are all one piece and a one piece stamped aluminum
sideplate to eliminate any flex that could cause gears to bind under load.

Shimano makes these reels in a variety of
sizes to match any fishing condition. The 50 and 51 are GT models with
ultralight Wiffle Spools and an incredible 12 bearings so they will cast
almost anything you can tie on; from weightless worms to the biggest
Senkos or spinnerbaits. They are great for any freshwater application
where fine lines and light weights are a must, and they can stand the
strain of braided super-lines. The exclusive Recessed Reel Foot lets you
palm these reels for better rod handling and they are quite comfortable
for pitching or other techniques where low profile reels are a must.
Weighing a mere 7.2 ounces, they will compliment the lightest rods.
The 100 and 101 are also GT models with
5.8:1 gear ratios and enough line capacity for any technique. They have 11
bearings and weigh only 9.5 ounces. They also feature the Recessed Reel
Foot so they will match up well with any top quality rod. The 200 comes in
both the GT model with the wiffle spool and the standard model with the
high capacity spool. With 5:1 gear ratios these reels have power to spare
for the largest freshwater gamefish up to medium sized saltwater game. The
300 and 400 feature non-disengaging levelwinds so the line guide tracks
the line as it comes off the spool. This eliminates drastic line angles
and greatly reduces friction for longer casts. Shimano's lineup of Total

- A-RB (Anti-Rust Bearings) (all
models execpt 50GT, 51GT, 100GT, 101GT) are specially treated stainless
steel ball bearings that are at least 10 times more corrosion resistant
than standard stainless steel ball bearings.
- Lo-Mass Drilled Spool System
(only models 50GT, 51GT, 100GT, 101GT, and 200GT) reduces the weight of
the spool by drilling, and lowers start-up inertia for more manageable
casts.
- Aluminum Spool
- Super Free (SF) (excluding models
300, 400, 401, 700) bearing supported pinion gear system eliminates
friction between the pinion gear and spool shaft for increased
freespool.
- Variable Brake System (VBS) uses
centrifugal force rather than magnets to aid in controlling the cast for
increased distance and adjustability.
- High Efficiency Gearing (HEG) is
not only the oversized gears, but also includes the setplate and
sideplate, which allow for a high speed retrieve while providing

- Super Stopper is a one-way roller

model 700) allows the reel to sit closer to the rod for comfort and
maneuverability.
- Easy Access Sideplate by using a
single thumb screw, the angler can open the sideplate and adjust the VBS
without having to remove the spool from the reel.
- Manual Return Cluch (CTE700 only)
- Drilled Crossbar (only on models
50GT, 51GT, 100GT, 101GT, 200GT) reduces the overall weight of the reel.
- Adjustable Handle Shank (700 size
only) allows the angler to use the handle in the short position for fast
retrieves, or the extended position for more cranking power.
- CTE Clicker (only on models 300,
